The first step after purchasing your copper moonshine still kit is to assemble it according to these directions:
50 Gallon Stainless Steel Moonshine Still Plans
The first step in building your still is to make a list of the materials that you will need. The following is a list of materials needed to build a 50 gallon still:
50 gallons of copper pipe, cut into sections and bent into shape (1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, 1 inch)
50 feet of 1/8 inch aluminum tubing with an inner diameter of 3/8 inch (used for the vapors return lines)
4 inches of 3/4 inch copper pipe for the vapor condenser coil (this will be bent into the shape shown below)
A large cooking pot or kettle with a lid (this will be used as the still pot) – Stainless steel cooking pots are recommended. DO NOT use aluminum cooking pots as they can react with alcohols and cause explosions! A 20 quart stainless steel stock pot works well as long as it has a lid that fits tightly onto the top rim. Also, make sure that there are no holes in the bottom of your stock pot so that no alcohol leaks out during distillation. If you are using an old stock pot that has holes in it, plug

This is a good option because it will save you money and it will give you a chance to learn how everything works together.
