The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios is the crown jewel of Universal’s Orlando parks. A full-scale replica of Hogsmeade, this park allows you to step into the world of Harry Potter and enjoy a variety of attractions based on the characters and movies.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in 2010 at Universal Studios Florida, followed by a second park at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2016. The third park at Universal Studios Japan opened in 2018. As these are separate parks, they each offer different attractions and experiences.

The first two Wizarding Worlds were built on former parking lots, but Universal Japan built its Wizarding World inside an existing building — the same one that used to house Studio Tour: Special Effects Stage — giving guests even more space for attractions like Ollivanders Wand Shop and Hogwarts Castle!

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a themed area at Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood. The area is based on the fictional setting of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, where visitors can encounter attractions, shops, restaurants and characters from the series, including Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort.

A long-term plan for an American version of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter was first announced by Universal Parks & Resorts in 2007, when it intended to build a replica in California with a target date of 2010.[1] However, the project was delayed by the credit crunch until June 2009 when construction began at Universal Studios Hollywood.[2] It opened in Spring 2010 as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley™,[3][4] with its flagship attraction being Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts™.[5]

The second American installation was announced in early 2012 as part of a multi-year expansion plan for Universal Orlando Resort,[6][7] which opened on July 8th 2014.[8] It includes a recreation of Hogsmeade Village,[9] original rides such as Dragon Challenge (replaced by Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure),[10], new shops and restaurants[

A third part, where guests can visit Hogsmeade village and ride Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge roller coaster (now closed), is located across from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure’s entrance roadway.

The development cost $265 million[1] to build and includes restaurants, shops, live entertainment shows and two rides: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (which simulates riding on a broomstick) and Flight of the Hippogriff (which simulates riding Buckbeak). The land also includes an outdoor amphitheater used for concerts performed by students from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[2]

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was built as part of a larger $1 billion expansion at Universal Orlando that included other attractions such as Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride, Skull Island: Reign of Kong (now Kong: Skull Island: King Kong 360 3D), and Springfield USA.

In addition to these new rides, the expansion also added new shops and restaurants throughout both parks in Universal Studios Florida and Islands Of Adventure. This was done to increase guest capacity for the park’s busiest times during peak seasons.
