The $1 billion resort generated $215.7 million in gross gaming revenues in August, according to figures released Thursday by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. That’s the most ever for a single month at a Massachusetts casino.
“We are thrilled with the results from our first month of operations,” said Mark Sweeney, general manager of Encore Boston Harbor. “The team is working hard every day to deliver on our promise of creating an unforgettable experience for our guests.”
The numbers show that Encore is off to a strong start since opening on June 25 — but they also highlight how much more money can be made once it attracts even more gamblers into its doors. The casino brought in $165 million during its first week and then tailed off slightly over time until reaching its peak last month.
Encore has been up against some stiff competition since opening: The Wynn casino in Everett has been open since 2009 and has become one of the state’s most profitable casinos, while MGM Springfield opened earlier this year with thousands of slot machines and table games.
