Diy doors for bookcase
There are many ways to add doors to your Ikea bookcase. You can use a full-length door to hide the storage or get creative with a sliding door.
- Use full-length doors.
- Add sliding doors and use the space underneath for storage.
- Add glass doors and use the space underneath for storage.
If you are looking for a way to add storage to your small home, then a bookcase is the perfect solution. A bookcase with doors can be used to store all sorts of items, from books to pictures and other memorabilia. You can also use it as a display case for your favorite treasures. Here are some ideas on how to add doors to your existing bookcase:

If you have an old wooden door in your attic that has seen better days, then you can use it as the basis for your new bookcase door. To do this, remove the hardware from the door and sand it down until it is smooth. Then paint or stain it so that it matches the rest of your bookcase. Next measure and cut a piece of glass that is at least 1 inch larger than the opening on one side and 2 inches larger than it on both sides (this will allow room for hinges). Attach hinges to each side of the glass using screws or pop rivets then attach them onto the back of the door using screws or pop rivets as well (make sure they are placed at least 2 inches from either edge). Finally install handles at each end of each side using screws
I recently purchased an IKEA PAX wardrobe to use as a tv cabinet. The problem is that it’s just a cube with no doors or drawers, so I’m looking for ideas on how to add them.
I’ve seen this done with glass doors, but I don’t know if that would be too heavy for the shelves.
I was also thinking of using plywood and adding hinges and handles, but I’m worried about making sure they line up properly when closed.
Any thoughts?
Here’s a simple solution for adding doors to a bookcase:
- Find the height of your bookcase. The standard height of most IKEA bookcases is 29″. If you want your door to sit flush with the top of your bookshelf, then measure down 29″ from the top and make a mark.
- Draw lines across the width of each shelf at that measurement. You may need to cut down an existing shelf or add one if needed to get all your shelves even.
- Cut out the spaces between each line with a jigsaw or handsaw (if you don’t have access to power tools). Be sure not to cut right up against the line because it’s easier to sand off any excess wood than try and find exactly where you need to stop cutting so as not to cut through the line itself!
Adding doors to a cabinet can be done in a variety of ways. The easiest method is to use hinges and attach the door to the front of the cabinet. This is not always an option depending on the type of cabinet you have. You can also use magnetic hooks on the inside or outside of your cabinets, which is great for storing small items that don’t need to be locked up such as spices or utensils.
Ikea has some great options for adding doors to their cabinets. If you have an IKEA bookcase and want to add doors, there are several options:
- Use magnetic hooks on the inside or outside of your cabinet, which is great for storing small items that don’t need to be locked up such as spices or utensils.
- Use glass doors if you’re looking for something more decorative than just a regular door with no glass panels.
If you have an open bookcase, you can add doors to it in a variety of ways. The most common is by using sliding glass doors. This is a very simple process and requires little more than a hammer, screwdriver, and some nails. However, if you want to avoid the hassle of using glass, there are other options available.
If you have an ikea bookcase with no doors, there are several ways to add them. You can either make them yourself or purchase pre-made ones that match your existing furniture perfectly.
If you have an unfinished bookcase or cabinet, you can easily add doors to it. You can also add a new door to an existing piece of furniture.
If you have a small cabinet that needs doors, consider using glass ones. Glass is lighter than wood and gives the illusion of being larger. You can also paint glass with chalkboard paint so your kids will be able to write on it with chalk.
To add doors to a cabinet that doesn’t have them, use a power drill with a bit size that matches the screws provided with your hinges. You’ll need two hinges for each door — one for the top and one for the bottom — plus screws and wood glue (optional). Mark where you want the hinges on your cabinet with a pencil then pre-drill holes for each screw before inserting them into place.
Once your hinges are in place, attach your door by lining up its edges with those of the opening, then screwing through from the inside using long screws and washers if needed so they don’t show on the outside surface (this is especially important if you’re using glass panels). If necessary, install another hinge on an opposite side of the opening if your door doesn’t swing inward
In this video, I show you how to add a door to a cabinet. The process is easy and only takes about 10 minutes.
I used a Kreg Jig for this project but you can use any other type of pocket hole system. If you don’t have a jig, it’s not necessary to buy one, just use screws and glue instead of pocket holes.
To make the door fit perfectly in the opening, I used a trick that I learned from my dad: attach the hinges with screws on one side of each hinge, then mark where those screws are with a pencil. Slide the hinge over to the opposite side of the door and remove the screws from that side of the hinge. Then screw those screws back in where they were originally marked so that when you slide them back over to their original position they will line up with their corresponding holes.*
The process is simple: measure your opening, cut some plywood or particle board to fit inside your opening, attach some hinges on each end (I used two hinges per side), and then attach some handles or knobs.*
