Building roof for deck

The Roof of your deck is a very important part of the design and functionality of your deck. Your roof will be where you spend most of your time when on your deck. The roof is where you will have parties, BBQ’s, or just hanging out with family and friends.

The Roof should be designed to fit the style and look of your home as well as being functional for the purpose it serves.

You may be wondering what type of roofing material you should use for your roof. There are many different types of roofing materials that come in all different colors, shapes and sizes that can be used for your roof. Some common types include:

Metal roofs – Metal roofs are becoming more popular because they can last up to 50 years! They are very durable and have many different finishes available such as zinc, stainless steel or aluminum so they can match any home design! If you have a deck and want to add a roof, there are several options. The easiest is to build the roof on top of the deck. This method works best if you have a small deck, or if your deck has low support posts. It also works well if you plan on covering most of the deck with the roof, but leaving an open area for people to walk through.

The next easiest way to create a roof over your deck is to attach posts directly beneath each support post. The posts can be made from 2×6 lumber or 1×10 lumber. The posts should be attached 4 feet from the edge of the deck so that they don’t interfere with any doorways or railings. For example, if you were adding a 6-foot by 8-foot section of roof over one side of your 12-foot by 15-foot deck, then there would be three support posts: two 4-foot sections and one 8-foot section.

Finally, if you want to cover more than half of your deck, then it’s best to build a frame using rafters and joists (or trusses) that will span across both sides of the deck and then attach them directly into the existing structure at each end point.

The easiest way to do this is to use T-posts and run them through the rafters on top of your deck. Then attach the plywood directly to these posts. You’ll want to use a post every fourth or fifth joist, depending on how much load you’re putting on it.

This will be a pretty basic roof with no valleys or dormers, but it’s not too hard to build an A-frame roof if you have the right tools and materials. The basic idea behind an A-frame is that there are two perpendicular beams (the legs) that tie into a ridge board at the top. In this case, we’ll make the ridge board out of 2x6s and then cover it with plywood sheathing before attaching shingles over the whole thing.
