The Adirondack chair is a classic summer lounger, and there are many different ways to build one. The most common method is to use 2×4 lumber and attach them together with screws. Another option is to use 2×6 lumber and join them together with nails or screws.
The first step when building an Adirondack chair is to cut your 2x4s or 2x6s into sections that are 7 feet long. You’ll need two of these for each chair you build. Then, using a saw, cut a V-shaped notch out of each end of the pieces so they fit together like puzzle pieces. This notch should be 1/2 inch at its widest point and 1 inch deep (see photos).
Next, screw or nail the two pieces together at each end using four screws per joint (you’ll need eight screws total). You can use glue as well, but this isn’t necessary unless you want an extra-strong bond between your boards.
Sand down any rough edges with sandpaper before painting or staining your Adirondack chairs, then apply two coats of exterior-grade paint or stain (this will keep them from rotting).

This is my adirondack chair plan, which is a variation on the traditional design. I made this one using pine instead of cedar because it was easier to work with and cheaper. The chair is very sturdy and surprisingly comfortable!

I’ve been looking for some plans to build an Adirondack chair. I’ve found several, but none of them are metric. Is there anyone who can help? The closest I’ve come is this site http://www.buildeazy.com/projects/adirondack-chair-plans/. It has plans in imperial units, but they do include a materials list and cut lengths for metric sizes. One 1/2″ x 4′ x 8′ sheet of 1/3″ plywood (for the seat bottom)
